Jimmy Hendrix Trivia. Who is Randy California?
Who is Randy Wolfe Randy Texas, Randy California? Randy Craig Wolfe, born February 20, 1951 to January 2 1997 Born into a musical family, his parents owned a nightclub entertainment at the time.
First Jimi Hendrix Group, under the name Jimmy James, created The Blue Flames (originally as The Rainflowers) in June 1966. He was fifteen years old when he discovered Hendrix playing his guitar at Manny's Music in California, the two men moved to New York in 1966. He played in Hendrix band Jimmy James & the Blue Flames summer. Hendrix was blown away when he heard Wolfe plays, he was forced immediately invited him to play with him at the Cafe Wha tonight. At Cafe, the guitarist spent a few minutes in the back room, where James Wolfe taught "Hey Joe" "Like a Rolling Stone", "Wild Thing", "Shotgun" and some other songs.
Bassist Blue Flames "was named Randy, who was from Texas. As Randy second band, Jimmy called him Randy, Texas, and Wolfe took the name of Randy California, which holds to date. The drummer was a friend of Texas, "the man called Danny Palmer [1]. Jeff Baxter (Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers fame) was also known for playing bass for the Flames Blue on a few occasions.
The Blue Flames ended up playing six nights a week at Cafe Wha, earning a spot Safe on the bill. California recalls that "the group generates about $ 60 per night and Jimmy is divided equally four ways" although SHIROKY girlfriend Carol (Jimmy's at the time) thinks otherwise, she claims to be absolutely sure of the tape used to get paid only $ 7 per night. The group split up: Jimmy was approached by the manager, Chas Chandler, who eventually helped form The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Apparently, Jimmy tried to make Randy California with him to England for training experience, but Chandler was against the idea as Hendrix believed he might be the only guitarist in the band, and California was too young anyway.
Finally, Randy Wolfe moved back to California and re-take his name Randy California. He lived in California and played from there, becoming an icon of California until his death in January of '97.
Listening is believing in this case. You tube has some great videos of Randy and Imeem has a couple too. Take a listen and see if he lacks the chops. You enjoy.

This brand-new, completely unreleased studio album features 12 previously unreleased studio recordings totalling over 60 minutes of unheard Jimi Hendrix. Ten of these recordings were made between February and May, 1969, as the Jimi Hendrix Experience set out to create the sequel to their groundbreaking 1968 double-album Electric Ladyland. The album features “Valleys Of Neptune,” one of the most sought after of all of Hendrix’s commercially unavailable recordings, and includes exciting 1969 arrangements of the classic signature songs “Red House,” “Fire,” and “Stone Free.” Also includes unheard studio versions of Hendrix’s inspired interpretations of “Bleeding Heart” (Elmore James) and Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love.” Mixed by Eddie Kramer, the engineer for all of Hendrix’s albums throughout the guitarist’s lifetime. Produced by Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer, and John McDermott, the team behind all of the acclaimed Jimi Hendrix CD and DVD releases since 1996.VALLEYS OF NEPTUNE: Track by TrackAll of the 12 recordings featured on the album have never before been released on a CD/LP. The songs document the pivotal time period after Electric Ladyland and before Electric Lady Studios and the recordings made there that would later take form as Cry of Love and First Rays. Valleys of Neptune documents both the final studio recordings Jimi made in 1969 with the original Jimi Hendrix Experience and the first efforts with new bassist Billy Cox. As a number of the song titles will be familiar to fans and buyers alike, the following details the key characteristics of each of the tracks on Valleys of Neptune."Stone Free": The original 1966 recording by the original Jimi Hendrix Experience is best known as one of Jimi’s signature songs. The Jimi Hendrix Experience box set (2000) featured a new remake by the original group. Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Billy Cox recorded this version in May 1969. It is a different recording entirely."Valleys of Neptune": This track was recorded in September, 1969, and May, 1970. This full-band version has never been released. An extract of a demo Hendrix made of this song -- featuring just Mitchell on drums and percussionist Juma Sultan -- was part of the short-lived Reprise/Polydor album Lifelines, which was in the marketplace between 1990 to 1992."Bleeding Heart": This cover of the classic blues song by Elmore James is different entirely from the versions featured on South Saturn Delta and (originally) on War Heroes. This recording has never been issued and features Jimi, Billy Cox, and drummer Rocky Isaac. It was recorded in April, 1969."Hear My Train A Comin’": This electric, full-band version is different from the famous 12-string acoustic version that was featured in the 1973 documentary Jimi Hendrix and subsequently on the album Jimi Hendrix: Blues."Mr. Bad Luck": Like “Valleys of Neptune”, a different version of this song was part of Lifelines in (1990). Jimi would later develop this song as “Look Over Yonder,” issued as part of South Saturn Delta."Sunshine of Your Love": A stage favorite for the group during the 1969 period which has never been released."Lover Man": Jimi recorded many different arrangements of this song, including the versions on both the Jimi Hendrix Experience box set (2000) and South Saturn Delta. This is an entirely different recording made in February, 1969."Ships Passing Through the Night": A never-before-released track taken from the last recording session by the original Jimi Hendrix Experience on 4/14/69."Fire/Red House": Both of these songs by the original Jimi Hendrix Experience were recorded at the same February, 1969, session. They feature the expanded stage arrangements Jimi had developed and are not alternate takes of the original 1967 recordings."Lullaby for the Summer/Crying Blue Rain": These April, 1969, recordings by the original Jimi Hendrix Experience have never been released. 2010 release from the legendary Rock guitarist containing 12 previously unreleased studio recordings. Ten of these recordings were made between February and May 1969 as the Jimi Hendrix Experience set out to create their sequel to the groundbreaking 1968 double album Electric Ladyland. Features 'Valleys Of Neptune,' one of the most sought after of all of Hendrix's commercially unavailable recordings. Includes exciting 1969 arrangements of classic signature songs 'Red House', 'Fire' and 'Stone Free'. Also includes unheard studio versions of Hendrix's inspired interpretations of 'Bleeding Heart' by Elmore James and Cream's 'Sunshine Of Your Love'. Genre: Music Video: DocumentaryRating: RRelease Date: 9-JUN-2009Media Type: DVD The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. It's more than a chronicle of the hippie movement, however; this is a film of genuine historical and social importance, capturing the spirit of America in transition, when the Vietnam War was at its peak and antiwar protest was fully expressed through the liberating music of the time. With a brilliant crew at his disposal (including a young editor named Martin Scorsese), director Michael Wadleigh worked with over 300 hours of footage to create his original 225-minute director's cut, which was cut by 40 minutes for the film's release in 1970. Eight previously edited segments were restored in 1994, and the original director's cut of Woodstock is now the version most commonly available on videotape and DVD. The film deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and it's still a stunning achievement. Abundant footage taken among the massive crowd ("half a million strong") expresses the human heart of the event, from skinny-dipping hippies to accidental overdoses, to unpredictable weather, midconcert childbirth, and the thoughtful (or just plain rambling) reflections of the festive participants. Then, of course, there is the music--a nonstop parade of rock & roll from the greatest performers of the period, including Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Canned Heat, The Who, Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Ten Years After, Sly & The Family Stone, Santana, and many more. Watching this ambitious film, as the saying goes, is the next best thing to being there--it's a time-travel journey to that once-in-a-lifetime event. --Jeff ShannonProduct Description1969 was a year unlike any other. Man first set foot on the moon. The New York Mets won the World Series against all odds. And for three days in the rural town of Bethel, New York, half a million people experienced the single most defining moment of their generation; a concert unprecedented in scope and influence, a coming together of people from all walks of life with a single common goal: Peace and music. They called it Woodstock. One year later, a landmark Oscar®-winning documentary captured the essence of the music, the electricity of the performances, and the experience of those who lived it. Newly remastered, the film features legendary performances by 17 best selling artists. Experience Hendrix brings together the major singles with a stack of majestic album tracks and the career-defining live Woodstock version of "The Star Spangled Banner" on a fat 20-tracker. While best used as a sampler to direct new listeners to the immortal Are You Experienced, Electric Ladyland, and so on, the CD (which supplants the short-lived Ultimate Experience collection) does hang together as a listen. Its blend of Hendrix the rocker and Hendrix the underrated soul man is suggestive, painting a picture of a multifaceted genius and transcending its plainly mercenary origins. In the end, its effect--like that of all Hendrix's best records--is to remind us of a Jimi very, very much alive. --Rickey Wright No Description AvailableNo Track Information AvailableMedia Type: CDArtist: HENDRIX,JIMITitle: EXPERIENCE HENDRIX-BEST OF JIMStreet Release Date: 11/03/1998 |

If any artist deserved a hagiography it was Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Boyd's 1973 "authorized" tribute adequately sanctifies the legend. Perversely for a documentary, it achieves this simply through well-chosen concert footage rather than through the insights of the various talking heads. Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, and Germaine Greer are all wheeled out to wax lyrical about their days with Jimi, but nothing is more eloquent than watching and listening to him play. From "Hey Joe" in grainy black and white on the Ready Steady Go TV show, classic footage of Monterey, Woodstock (yes, "The Star-Spangled Banner"), and the Isle of Wight festivals to an acoustic 12- string rendition of "Hear My Train a' Comin'," Hendrix the musician speaks for himself. But if Hendrix the musician shines through, this is not the most insightful profile of Hendrix the man. The circumstances surrounding his death, for example, are hardly touched upon (girlfriend at the time Monika Dannemann gets only a few seconds of screen time). Interview footage with Hendrix himself plus some occasionally rambling and incoherent comments from such intimates as his father, army buddies, ex-girlfriends (including Linda Keith, who "discovered" him in New York and brought him to England), and fellow musicians all take second place to the music itself. The most sensible quote comes from Little Richard, who proves once and for all that he's utterly bonkers when he says of Jimi's music: "At times he made my big toes shoot up into my boot." --Mark Walker, Amazon.co.uk |
