Teaching Guitar Lessons: How to capture the imagination of your students
It is difficult to find someone to teach your child an instrument. It is difficult to find a reputable place that has great teachers and a budget support program. I learned guitar in the years 1980 when the hair-how and technology were more important than substance. There was this place called locally popular Music in Queens, New York, who was your course in the mill mom and pop instrument retail store. I bought my first guitar there for $ 300 dollars I paid with money my tour.
Now Curiously, Aria Pro and paper routes for 11 years no longer exist. Children today have access to Sam Ash and as an instrument for their purchases and, as far as finding a job to pay for their instrument that is another story. Mom and Dad probably pay for the thing.
Needless to say I took lessons for two years and has built a good relationship with my teachers. He taught me all sorts of things, or tried, and I've never played! Mom was just happy that I was doing something constructive and found something I liked. It was a great promoter of role models and looked at my guitar teacher in unison.
After two years, my guitar teacher showed me said he was leaving and gave me his number in case I wanted private lessons. Of course I told my mother and we obliged. Apparently everybody did the same as the store closed shortly thereafter.
Years later, when I was old enough to understand, or care this issue, he told me how the place was run and how the owner did not really care for her teachers. I ended up taking private lessons for 4 years and today, almost 20 years later I am still playing professionally, I might add.
So what was the love of the instrument or the teacher who forced me to play? He was Professor and I'll tell you why. Music lessons are ideal for those who want to learn the instrument of their choice. But many teachers, they are rare.
When I started teaching guitar, I did it for the money of course. I had an average of thirty students and as my guitar teacher 80s, I taught in a Mom and Pop retail store. Over time, I realized that my guitar teacher old me that was more important than my love of music: it was a friendship and mentorship that would last a lifetime.
When I started to incorporate that into my teaching style, not only have I seen the results in the game of my students, but the turnover rate of children dropping out of the curriculum decreased dramatically.
So what have I done so great?
1.I heard. We always start a lesson to all gossip. Believe me, I remember being a child of 12 with divorced parents and sometimes it is simply great to have someone to listen. A true "How are you?" Goes a long way.
2.Laughter. To date, I do not take seriously. album Yeah, I registered and got my licensed music on television - but what it means for your students? I had fun learning environment. All the pretentious chatter about you and what you do and how you do it can wait.
3.Listen what they want to do. I briefly had a guitar teacher who was just to make me a solo player like all metal players. He was adamant about it and made me do all those boring scales. Do not get me wrong-scales are important, but he never told what to do with them. It was not until my guitar teacher asked me 80 years: "So what do you want to learn? "I understood all the hubbub scale. He inserted all the difficult things in our lessons without knowing me.
4.The songs that says, songs and more songs! Write what your student listens and then make a goal to learn the songs he loves. When learning these songs, just choose the techniques that give it character and incorporate it into your lesson. For example, if he or she still has not learned a trill and you hear in the song, it reminds the listener and make them part of the lesson that day. Hear what sounds like something in a song they love goes a long way.
5.Have fun. When you are bored I guarantee they will get bored too.
Now we have all the students who will never able to play an instrument for any reason, but their parents do. I'm not saying that by using these teaching techniques that every student you encounter will be a pro in no time. All I am saying is that once you build a strong and healthy relationship with your students you will be their friend and that is something that lasts a lifetime, no matter what.
