Texas Goes Green: Texas Gets switched to the benefits of tea
We've all been there, at least in any form complex and mystifying ground of choice of drinks too many and their accoutrements. While jokes office ordering coffee in five minutes ( "I'd like a double half-CAFF three-quarters-skinny, dry mocha hazelnut Rocha, light whipped cream latte ") may be the first thing that comes to mind, the possibilities of variety Tea and preparation are almost endless. Dallas, Houston and the rest of Texas are most familiar with black tea, demonstrated by their strong tradition of sweet of the frozen variety.
Health benefits of tea are innumerable infused with antioxidants, including catechins and powerful ECGC, The High Quality teas are considered safe, traditional drinks, unlike coffee can be enjoyed safely at will. Several studies show that drinking five cups or more of green tea a day actually reduces the risk of dying from many diseases, including heart disease and stroke.
Now, it's something that your company insurance will love. And it's just a genre. The Tea is actually the second most popular beverage in the world after water, and was appreciated long before the modern era began. Texas the rest of the Western world is slowly catching it.
I recently visited a tea house, which began to appear in Austin, Houston, and other Texas cities. I was looking for simplicity, tired of waiting in line for the poor gopher anonymous office to complete a ten employees that sounds more like a student theatrical warm-up exercise - or a very bad joke. It was a misjudgment final. Although experience was unquestionably education, my choices are not only different, they were like looking into the endless spiral of time. The conversation with the Clerk said something like this:
"I'd like a cup of hot tea.
"Uh, ok. What do you want?"
"Tea. I'd like a cup of tea. Ah, yes. Well, what kind do you have? "(Mistake Number One.)
"Well! she huffed, obviously a little annoyed by a as a beginner. "We have the most fashionable varieties - black tea, red tea, green tea, yellow (deep breathing)." White tea, tea herbal twig tea, fruit "
When did all this start sounding like a novel by Dr. Seuss? "Uh uh, white. I'll try White.
"Chinese, I suppose?" How about a nice Bai Mu Dan?
"Sure."
"Will - you like milk? Soy? Rice? 2%? Together?
"uh. No milk. Is there more than one type of it, this Bai Mu Dan?" (Mistake number two).
"Well, sort of. Bai Mu Dan is a kind of white tea, but you can get in different preparations, grades, and several provinces different, although the Fujian is the best. Would you like loose-leaf Pyramid bags, cold pressed? Earthenware, glass or a tea pot porcelain? We can also make mixes for making half-CAFF CAFF or super. Would you like honey, white sugar, raw sugar, brown sugar, agave nectar "
My thoughts got lost somewhere along the sweeteners for barbecues off Texas - where tea was especially simple. And cold.
"Or do you prefer tea oxidized?
"Uh" My half of the conversation was entirely composed of too Mutters monosyllabic. "How 'bout just a cup of black coffee?
Do not worry. It's not as difficult as it seems. I finally opted for Hao Bai Junshan silver needle - the highest quality white tea - a pot of clay, no milk or sweetener (if please). I thought my health insurance company would be proud. Then I quickly returned home and switched on the Wi-Fi for a night search. I simply would not be fooled by the world of hot drinks.
It turns out that tea is not just tea - even in Texas. In fact, the "tea" is often not tea at all. To be considered genuine, the drink must be infused from at least part of the plant Camellia sinensis, (of course unofficially known as the herb "tea") usually leaves. What Americans call "red tea", for example, is not really tea, but a drink made from the rooibos plant in South Africa; herbal of drinks, teas as well, are considered. There are four main types of true tea: white, green, oolong and black, all categorized according to how including the Camellia sinensis is processed.
Because the leaves of the plant may begin to wilt and oxidize within hours, the stadium where the oxidation continually determines the type of tea. This process is called "fermentation" in the industry, but is officially known as enzymatic oxidation. The continuation of this growth, along the breaks more chlorophyll, tannins are released, and the darker the tea leaves become. Enzymatic oxidation is stopped at a given stage by heating - either steam or by a method of cooking dry.
White tea is considered the least processed, the oxidation is interrupted immediately after picking. Because of this lack of "fermentation, white tea retains the high levels catechins, and because only the young leaves or buds of new growth are chosen, also retain more natural caffeine. The plant may even be protected from sunlight to prevent the development of chlorophyll, the two factors which gives it a pale appearance.
Being fact that fewer young leaves are harvested, and the process is more sensitive, white teas - especially the good ones - are therefore more expensive. This type of tea is considered a specialty of Fujian province in China, and the most popular are Da Bai (Large White), Xiao Bai (Small White) Narcissus and Chaichit.
Green tea is slightly oxidized, and is the most internationally known side of black tea. It is ubiquitous in Japan so much so that it is often called simply "tea". Green tea is dried, either separately or rolled into pellets, which are later called "gunpowder" tea.
Green health benefits of tea have taken the media spotlight in recent years, and with reason. The infusion was used as a traditional medicine in Japan, India, China and Taiwan for millennia - Any treatment digestive problems to uncontrolled bleeding. In 1191, the Zen priest Eisai wrote that translates roughly as The Book of Tea, describing how recognize and cultivate the plant and how to apply the medicine. Modern Claims about the positive effects of green tea include everything increasing fat oxidation (thereby increasing metabolism), to treat neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
The word oolong means "black dragon", and we think that tea is named after one or several legends surrounding the leaves. Oolong tea is considered semi-oxidized, the level of fermentation from 10% to 70%. The Chinese know semi-oxidized teas collectively as the "tea blue-green, and oolong specific types of tenants. The most famous are produced in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province in China and in the central mountains of Taiwan.
Black tea is fully oxidized, and the seeds of anywhere between two weeks and a month. In China, tea is called "tea red, due to the liquid-reddish brown hue, while the West called "black tea" because of the color of the leaves usually used. Black tea is the tea most popular in South Asia and parts of Africa and can be stored up to two years when properly stored.
Unblended black teas are classified as a bit of wine - depending on their sequence, year, and flush (or time of year in which the leaves were harvested). All black teas (mixed or single-origin) are also grouped according to the method production - orthodox or CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) - and also ranked on quality. For orthodox black teas, Orange Pekoe system is used to judge quality, while the CTC are evaluated according to other standards.
Whereas humans have been tea drinkers for much of 5000 years, a quick glance at the classification is only the beginning. When given time, we Homo sapiens are inventive little creatures, and Over the millennia, have developed elaborate systems for mixing, storage, processing and preparing tea. Some varieties are expected to fetch thousands of dollars a pound, and worth the cost. Better still, they may even prolong your life. And really, who could not use a cup tea with the grandchildren?
Tea benefits include increased energy, better health, and possibly a longer life.

The enhanced portion contains a screensaver, links to Websites, and the ability to play the music through the computer.Genre: Soundtracks & ScoresMedia Format: Compact DiskRating: Release Date: 5-DEC-2000 The best soundtracks are like movies for the ears, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? joins the likes of Saturday Night Fever and The Harder They Come as cinematic pinnacles of song. The music from the Coen brothers' Depression-era film taps into the source from which the purest strains of country, blues, bluegrass, folk, and gospel music flow. Producer T Bone Burnett enlists the voices of Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, and kindred spirits for performances of traditional material, in arrangements that are either a cappella or feature bare-bones accompaniment. Highlights range from the aching purity of Krauss's "Down to the River to Pray" to the plainspoken faith of the Whites' "Keep on the Sunny Side" to Stanley's chillingly plaintive "O Death." The album's spiritual centerpiece finds Krauss, Welch, and Harris harmonizing on "Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby," a gospel lullaby that sounds like a chorus of Appalachian angels. --Don McLeese |

It Might Get Loud List Price: $27.96 Sale Price: $11.74 Used From: $10.49 Average Rating: ![]() |
|
Guggenheim follows three star rock musicians for a year, exploring their musical roots and innovations on the electric guitar. Three generations of rock guitarists come together for It Might Get Loud, a 2009 documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth). These are not just your garden-variety guitar gods: Jimmy Page, in his mid-'60s at the time of the film, founded Led Zeppelin, who dominated the 1970s following the breakup of the Beatles. As a member of U2, 48-year-old David Evans, better known as the Edge, created one of the most distinctive and influential sounds of the past quarter century. And 34-year-old Jack White (of the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather) was described by one music publication as "the most significant rock 'n' roll figure of the past ten years." Guggenheim, who followed the three around for the better part of a year, takes us into their individual lives, past and present. There are shots of Page as a young London session musician, with the Yardbirds and Zeppelin, at Headley Grange (the estate where much of the fourth Zep album was made), and at home with his record collection. The Edge takes us to the Dublin classroom where U2 first rehearsed, as well as to the practice room he uses now (never a virtuoso soloist, he developed a style based on texture and a mind-boggling array of effects); and White, whose insistence on authenticity is admirable but perhaps a tad self-conscious, constructs a "guitar" from a plank of wood, a piece of wire, and a Coke bottle (he also plays a recording by the primitive bluesman Son House, featuring just voice and handclaps, that White says is still his biggest inspiration). The three also converge on a Hollywood sound stage, where they chat and a do a little jamming on Zep's "In My Time of Dying" (with all three playing slide guitar) and the Band's "The Weight." It's hard to say if the film's appeal will extend beyond guitar freaks and fans of these particular bands, but at the very least, It Might Get Loud offers some interesting insight into the soul and inspiration behind some of pop's best and most popular music. --Sam Graham |

Captures one of the first big rock events, which featured the top pop acts of the era. Filmed in 1964 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, this is arguably the very best rock-concert movie ever made, packed start to finish with nearly two hours of absolutely essential performances by an unprecedented group of American and British rock, pop, soul, and Motown legends. Dig this lineup: Marvin Gaye, the Supremes (look for Teri Garr as one of the dancers during "Where Did Our Love Go?"), Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Leslie Gore, Jan and Dean, a phenomenal James Brown and the Flames, followed (!) by the Rolling Stones rising to the occasion after Brown's legendary performance (Keith Richards has said that performing after Brown was perhaps the biggest mistake the band ever made). Never released on home video, The T.A.M.I. Show was the holy grail of rock-concert movies. Those who have had to make do with substandard and incomplete bootlegs will agree that it was worth the wait for this collector's edition that restores the long-lost Beach Boys set (listen to director Steve Binder's audio commentary for the story behind its removal). --Donald Liebenson |

He may only come up to King Kong's shin, but Joe makes up in heart what he lacks in size. This sweet tale of a girl and her pet/best friend, an African gorilla with the soul of a kitten, pulls on a different set of heartstrings than the giant ape classic. Robert Armstrong practically repeats his role from King Kong as a Broadway producer who lures Jill Young (Terry Moore) and Joe, an ape she raised from baby (a splendidly realized stop-motion character created by Willis O'Brien, the creator behind Kong), to New York as the star attraction at his new nightclub. Caged in a cramped basement holding cell, the unhappy Joe finally goes berserk after a trio of drunks ply him with alcohol, and the city rules him a menace. In a desperate attempt to save Joe from execution, Jill rounds up her friends and confidants (including beefy love interest Ben Johnson) for a jailbreak. This human-scale drama is more subdued than its inspiration, but the nightclub rampage remains a terrifying scene in its mad destruction; and the climax, involving a raging fire at an orphanage (have these filmmakers no shame?!), still impresses. --Sean Axmaker |

Experiment in Terror [VHS] List Price: $14.95 Sale Price: $29.99 Used From: $12.58 Average Rating: ![]() |
|
Experiment in Terror, a stylized noir thriller, was director Blake Edwards's second film in 1962, the first being a devastating portrait of alcoholism, Days of Wine and Roses. Neither film would seem standard fare for a filmmaker best known for his sophisticated slapstick comedies. For Experiment in Terror, Edwards perfected the stylish black-and-white cinematography he used to great effect in the 1950's TV series Peter Gunn. Glenn Ford plays a stalwart G-man out to thwart psychopathic extortionist Ross Martin's plans to force bank clerk Lee Remick to rob the bank where she works. San Francisco locations have never looked better or more ominous. One particularly chilling scene unfolds in the loft of an artisan who makes mannequins for a living ... though not for long. Blake Edwards's experiment in suspense grabs hold of you from the very beginning and doesn't let go until the final showdown at Candlestick Park. The film also features a near-legendary score by Henry Mancini. --Kristian St. Clair |
